Overview
When Covid-19 hit the world, filling out paper forms or even communicating with a staff was a risk to get the virus. To address this concern, a patient portal for Oral Surgery Management was design to facilitate the communication between the patients and the clinics.
It features a variety of registration forms such as patient, referral doctor or practice. Each profile includes the possibility of filling out personal information, attaching documents or communicating with a doctor or clinic.
Context
OSM Patient Portal Platform is an app that I designed from the recognition of a problem to final visual design. The goal of the project was to design the user flow, intuitive fill out profile, instant messaging and payment history that would function smoothly through all devices. I also included doctor’s biography profiles and patient’s list depending of the user.
Design Process

RESEARCH
Competitive Analysis
My design process started with researching similar clinic's apps currently in the market. This will allow me to understand the functionality, identify their strengths and better opportunities for my client. I did an analysis of two competitors: Texas Children's Hospital and Asa Dental.

Interviews
We connected with current doctors, front desk managers, patients and conducted interviews to better understand their communication process with the clinic and alternative ways to fill out their information.

User Persona
After completing a competitive analysis, I recruited and interviewed 5 people including front desk managers, patients and doctors who were interested in optimizing their process to fill out form or communicating with the clinic or/and patient. I then created user personas based on my user research that helped me understand a realistic picture of users’ goals, needs, and behaviors

IDEATE
Concept and Strategy
Creating a simple profile for doctors, dentists and patients, where they can communicate between each other through their phones. To avoid paper fill out forms, late calls and lost emails, OSM app will provide a platform where the patients and doctors will have direct communication. It allows users to have a quick response and history of all their medical procedures.
User Flows
To communicate the concept and information architecture, I generated site map, user flows and worked together with the client to determine how the services will be provided.

DEVELOP
Lo-Fi Sketches
I sketched multiple options for each screen, continually referencing the target audience, company mission and objectives to share successful stories with customers.

Hi-Fi Prototype
During this phase I iterated our design based on Lo-Fi validation findings. We learned that there were still some confusion around how to search per product types, bookmark projects or save products in the app. Therefore, we focused on improving the above while finalizing our UI design.

Looks & Feels
OSM App is about functionality. Simplicity is the primary goal of this app by the easy to follow steps to fill out the information. Thus, colors, are used carefully to maintain the corporate identity and some accents do display the actions. UI elements and typography are kept simple, undistracting by using a structured patterns.

I used a Style Guide as starting point and developed a more detailed design language document. The purpose of this guide is to ensure consistency and communicate the actions to the developers.
